HEARTBREAK FOR UNDER 16'S IN CUP QUARTER FINAL

Last saturday the 22nd march seen our under 16.s go into the south belfast league cup quarter final against highly fancied hollywood fc from two divisions above us. Having been to watch them a few times anto and mossy were expecting a hard fought battle. This proved to be the case as they were quite physical and much taller and stronger than our guys. This wasnt to stop our boys getting the ball down and trying to play. With the team set up as a 4-4-2 we began brightly and tried to pass it around but hollywood were right on our touch in the early stages and it knocked us out of our rythm. After a succession of corners we conceded with 15 minutes gone when the ball dropped on the 6 yard line and the hollywood winger was quickest to react to poke the ball into the net. To be fair to the lads they didnt panic and stuck to the principles thayt have stood by them all season. We created a few chances however were unasble to capitalise, the best of which seen debut boy sean mccann hit the crossbar from a nicely worked free kick. Half time. The second half senn us make a more attacking change at left back where conor mcanena replaced the hardworking marty lestrange, this helped us as conor was overlapping at every opportunity and pushed them back furter and furter as the half went on. To be honest there was only one team in it after the goal and that was us. Without creating anything clear cut we dominated thew second half and manager anto even commented that he had a sore neck from all the long balls played by hollywood. As the game entered the final 10 minutes we went 3 at the back in search of an equaliser and then in the final minutes it was 2 at the back!! The formation was then 2-3-5!!! The final whistle blew and we were out. No luck at all however we wish hollywood well in the next round

MANAGERS COMMENTS

Absolutely gutted for the lads today. Prep was 100% along with attitude and all that was missing was a goal. I have no doubt if we had of got one we would have scored more. Each and every one of you deserved to go through and I cant say how proud I am of you all. The progress this team has made is quite phenomonal. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for giving me a great day last saturday. The first of many more to come hopefully.
